Can We All Stop Using "Click Here"?

I can't hold it in any longer. Webmasters, web designers, developers, front-end, back-end, all of you. STOP IT! Stop saying Click Here. Really. People know what links are by now.

Your links should simply call the user to action with brief, meaningful text.

I get it. I run a CMS system where I have tens (tens I tell you!) of people submitting pages to me for approval, who after years of being told otherwise, still include Click Here (and also text pasted from MS Word... but that's another story, for another time).

Click Here to me, is the equivalent of this:

Click Here to have a hamburger in your mouth

Also, some people don't click. They touch. So if you just can't bring yourself to abandon Click Here, at least change your link text to Click Here. Or poke it with your index finger.

I'm sure you could go on one of the sites I administer and find an instance of Click Here (I'm telling you, the people who create the content are toying with me), but trust me, I'm hunting those links down like Sylvester Stallone in Rambo*.

*Rambo does not endorse my site... but probably would if he used the internet.
